Taylor Swift Wins Big at CMA Awards 2009
Taylor Swift, Fearless, 19 and Entertainer of The Year
Taylor walked away with Country Music's biggest wins much to the surprise of Taylor and Country Music fans, including Best Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of The Year, Entertainer of The Year! She unseated three-time winner Carrie Underwood (Best Female Vocalist of the Year) and four-time winner Kenny Chesney (Entertainer of the Year) at this year's 43rd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.
Some may feel this is all too much too soon, but it's the times we live in, instant gratitification. It went from sympathy votes to domination for the Kanye West VMAs incident, where he interrupted her acceptance speech and the rest is history. Ironically, it was in 2006 that Faith Hill was called a "sore loser" by some because cameras showed her saying "what" to Carrie Underwood winning her first Best Female Artist of The Year Award, fresh off of American Idol. Faith Hill vehemently disputed this was the case and stated Carrie was talented and deserving. American Idol catapulted Underwood into an instant superstar virtually overnight and three years later, 2009 gave us a very young country music entertainer of the year, the youngest ever and only the second woman to win this award. History has a way of repeating itself!
We have to brace ourselves as we the acceleration of fame and glory steadily increase and become commonplace, some deserving and others maybe not so much. I feel Taylor deserved the awards because they were given for more than reasons based on talent and performance. It was also a solidarity move, I'm sure Country Music felt somewhat of a snub by Kanye West's actions that Taylor wasn't deserving of the VMAs Best Female of Year Award and Beyonce was better suited. It's about respecting all music genres, even if it's not your preference. So Taylor, enjoy!
